Pity us... We are very poor

And they want us to pay more for the World Cup channels.

StarHub Q1 net profit doubles

SINGAPORE - Singapore's second-largest telecoms firm, StarHub Ltd, said on Wednesday its quarterly net profit doubled, buoyed by rising mobile usage and the bundling of its broadband Internet and cable TV services.

StarHub, also Singapore's sole cable television provider, reported a net profit of $61.4 million (US$39.26 million) for the three months ended March.

This compares with net earnings of $30.4 million in the year-earlier period and $73.3 million in the December quarter.

The result was below a $69 million net profit forecast from Citigroup Research.

StarHub, also Singapore's second-biggest mobile phone operator, competes with market leader Singapore Telecommunications Ltd and third-ranked MobileOne Ltd in a saturated domestic market where at least nine in 10 people have a handset. -- REUTERS
