This is by far the question I hate the most, especially after a tiring day.
You see, I don't really pay much attention to what I eat. Granted I try to eat healthy but most times it is to fill up my stomach so that it would stop making embarassing noise during quiet moments at office or so that I could just slack on my bed and watch tv without hunger pangs.
It's like asking me now what color underwear I'm wearing. I really don't know.
So it really frustrates me when I'm asked such question. Coz the answer just eludes me. At the precise moment, I can't seemed to remember.
My mum has the habit of asking that question every single time I reach home. I would always tell her Chai Fan just to give her a reply.
She finally stopped now that she has my naughty niece to entertain.
Now's my wife's turn....
"So what you eat huh.... Nice or not huh...."

Virgin car wash
I finally got around to washing my car for the very first time, Black car really quite terok. Can get dirtied even from the wind.
But it sure looks cooler than any other color once it's nice and shiny.

I was thinking should I cover up my car plate no. before posting this pic, something that most people does. But then, what difference does it make or what purpose does it serve really?
Unless you wanna buy 4D. But so far never open hor.
Anyway, I did the car wash at Seletar. Was searching for Sunset Grill, a restaurant opened by the ex owners of Jerry's Grill but just couldn't find it.
My NS was done mostly in Seletar Camp. It's a pretty laid back kind of place, away from the hectic city lifestyle. In here, you can't see a single HDB or office building.

This is me at the end of west camp, beside the runway of Seletar Airport.

A huge fan.

They even have a clubhouse with pool. A really nice place to relax.
The best part?
Free parking. ;)

Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe
Ever since I came back to Singapore, I have been missing the local food in Hong Kong.
Their salty wanton mee, the mangoes!, the cafe dishes, dim sums.
It would be good if I could get to try them again without flying over.
And yesterday I chanced upon a place that looks pretty promising. Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe. Found at Kovan City
I only knew yesterday Kovan City is the old Hougang Interchange. Kovan sounds more cheem. More Ang Mohsz.
Anyway the place is open 24 hours on certain days. A good supper place.

I love their decor. It brings out the things that one would be highly exposed to when in Hong Kong. Like the maps...

The trams...

Unfortunately money gone into the design budget means lesser for the chef. The food was only so-so to me. Whether it replicates the same dish at Hong Kong I don't know since I never try the same one over there.
But it sure didn't get my tongue excited.

And why does all these Hong Kong cafe like to sell their tea, coffee and ying yan so bloody expensive? $3 for an ice tea? The ice or the tea import from Hong Kong? Or is it the metal tin cup that I bought at Beach Road for my NS that cost 50 cents?
At least I know now where Kovan is.

A driver's life
Since I gotten the car a week ago, I have not had home cooked dinner. Even my mum would prefer me to ferry her out to far far places to eat.
When transport is not an issue, food would suddenly seemed to taste better the further they are located.
So now the chicken rice at Tampines 201 can no longer do. Must go Tuas and have their industrial smog flavoured one instead

But it had been interesting.
Crawling along the highway, last minute switching of lanes, stupid drivers, road works, stupid drivers.
Compare this to me taking the MRT to Pasir Ris so as to grab a seat and drool away in the past.
Going to work now is like an adventure!
ROUTES
Learning the routes to move around has been challenging. Trying to find the shortest distance. Trying to find the shortest distance without ERP. Trying to find the shortest distance without ERP and traffic jam.
IT.IS.IMPOSSIBLE.
ILLEGAL PARKING
Things get interesting here. Parking at home is still okay. About $60+ per month.
As I worked in CBD, parking is very expensive. You have rates like $180 - close to $300. Just to have a space to park your car!
That's like how much I spent on petrol the whole month.
So how can a poor man like me park his budget sedan without burning my pocket?
Just like what we learn in the Army. You can do anything you want.. just don't get caught. And so far I haven't.
Now: One coupon whole day.
Next: One coupon one month
(I'm gonna be selfish and not reveal where this place is. Hehe)

Busy busy busy
Got world cup to catch and to bet (it rhymes), got new transportation to figure out, got company financial year coming to an end...

Jimmie & Jaslyn Wedding
I'm keying this with a MAaaaJOR hangover. I never knew a headache could last so long. Minus my meal and toilet break, I officially woke up at 6pm. Oh man.
Oh yah, Louis Thirteen is really Power!
Yesterday was also my maiden attemptto be a "brother" for one of my secondary school friend Jimmie. Mainly taking the cue from the other more experienced "brothers", and the brunt from the "sisters".
We arrived at the Jaslyn's in style. A Lexus with almost everything computerised. It only lacks an Auto Pilot feature.

First obstacle, spray-painting a declaration for Jaslyn and making sure they heard it on the highest floor.

Getting through the gates is our primary task. To do so, we had to down a raw bittergourd, a char siew pau with chilli padi, garlic, tabesco sauce, mustard creams and wasabi and washing it down with lime juice concentrate.
Not a recommended breakfast combi.
And definitely not something to see with a full stomach.
You can now kiss your bride:
We headed to Pasir Ris for some shots but I missed all of it due to nature's call. But here's my pic for you guys to cut out and add in.

Next, J&J's new house.
And in case you can't find the kitchen

I like their place. Very minimal and has a hint of balinese touch.

We started the preparation in their hotel room. Room 6666 at Swissotel Westin Stamford. I love the suite. The toilet was as big as the room!
There's a most complete personal bar counter,

A personal workdesk,

The best view of Singapore,

And me sneaking in a shot in the toilet.

The ballroom was huge with 40 tables. The ambience just make everyone envious and wanna fall in love
My AV role. Making sure the video are played timely. Toughie.

And to quote Jimmie, may every night be just like that night for you. But a little less expensive.

Shen Zhen
It never occur to me that I will step into China in my twenties. In my mind, China is still a pretty backward country that is much more suitable for leisure trips paid with your CPF.
But my travel mates all wanted to go so what the heck.
We took the KCR (akin to MTR but another company) from Mongkok KCR all the way to Lo Wu station. Some stations are really far in between but the train was pretty quick. 45 mins ride.

You drop off the train, cross the HK custom, then a river that divides the island and I'm in China for the very 1st time.

This is what you'll see once you move out of China Immigration. For newbies, you may already be harbouring intentions to U-turn but this ain't the place to tour around.
You need to take their subway to Guomao, which is one station away.

Check out their fare card. It's like a coin. Contactless scanning at the gantry. You drop it into the gantry when you exit.

I think the paintwork on the train is not up yet.

See. It's just like Hong Kong here. No rural, uncivilized peasants. Those would be us as we wowed loudly everytime we see something worth wowing over.

This should be your first stop. Jin Kwang Hua Guang Chang. Follow my instructions. Your tongue won't regret.

The things are upmarket brands but you don't come to shop. You come here to eat like a King! Muhahah
If time is of essense, you should make a mad rush to the top floor and head to this place. I can't recall the name but these are the posters outside it.

This is fine-dining at budget price. But be awed by the ambience more than the food.
Show you what I mean.
Even the toilets are amazing. They spreaded numerous unisex cubicles in a big room. It has plastic sheets on the toilet cover. Press a button and it automatically changed to a fresh one for you. How more class can it get!
The cuisine....

SHOPPING
How can one go to Shenzhen without shopping. From the restaurant, you need to walk a fair bit to locate their shopping streets. It's closely modelled after Taipei's Xi Men Ding.

I didn't get much as I don't really fancy their fashion sense, nor Hong Kong's.

Piglet for pets anyone? Cruel, I know...
DINNER TIME
It should be quite obvious that I fancy food over shopping.
We headed back to the immigration area to the shopping centre beside it(There's only 1). A 2 hour massge and all of us gotten hungry.
You need to go to this restaurant on the top floor. There are two on opposite ends and one should have a queue. It's queuing time.
Peking duck, drunken prawns, hotplate beef, etc... *slurpz*

Our prawns drowning in wine

That's all the time we had for Shenzhen. We took the last train back to our hotel, it was close to midnight.
My parting shot of Shenzhen, taken at the bridge to the train platform. I love this pic. Like so pro. haha

To be continued...

Wong Tai Sin & Central
A quick meal to break our fast on day 2.

What's the deal with instant noodle?
It wasn't fantastic but unique loh. hehe.
We headed straight to Wong Tai Sin. It's kinda my idea to break away from the routine of non-stop shopping for a couple of hours.

It wasn't that big a deal really. It's not superbly grand or huge. But still considered a landmark.
And to play safe:

Central-Mid-Levels Escalator
The longest chain of escalator in Asia. It brings you from the bottom of Central, past Stanley Street(which we gave a miss), Lan Kwai Fong, all the way to some ulu alley high up upon some hill.

I read that the escalator is 800m but it sure feels much much longer than that to me.

It also passed by this landmark building. Used to be HK Central police station.

We opted to take a small bus back down. The escalator only goes up and stairway's down.

I like the small bus. It's quick and frequent. That's the importance of public transport isn't it.
HK has small bus, Singapore has price hikes.
If you like branded stuff, Central the place for you too. Or Shenzhen ;)
You have a giant LV boutique

Right opposite an equally humongous Armani

And how could you ever complete HK without hoping onto their tram.

And check this out. Vintage lifts!

And how can I go through a day without....

... my double milk.. *slurpz*
OOoooo. This is so HK Drama..
